LB Broth (Miller) is used in molecular genetic studies in a laboratory setting. LB Broth, Miller is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. LB Broth (Miller) is based on the formula described by Miller. This medium is used for the growth and maintenance of Escherichia coli strains used in molecular microbiology procedures. LB Broth, Miller is a nutritionally rich medium designed for growth of pure cultures of recombinant strains. E. coli is grown to late log phase in LB Medium. Some plasmid vectors replicate to high copy numbers without selective amplification. Some vectors do not replicate so freely and need to be selectively amplified. Chloramphenicol can be added to inhibit host synthesis and prevent replication of the bacterial chromosome. NEOGEN Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar (ISO), 10 kg
Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar is used for the enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in foods and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.Formulated according to ISO 21528:2017 (all parts), VRBGA is a modification of Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar (NCM0089) introduced by Mossel in 1978. VRBA contains lactose which is fermented by members of the coli/ aerogenes group, this medium gives a ‘coliform’ count. The VRBGA formula modification replaces lactose with glucose. Glucose is fermented by all members of the Enterobacteriaceae thus gives a presumptive Enterobacteriaceae count. Bile salts and crystal violet are used to inhibit Gram positive and non-enteric organisms. CASE is a selective chromogenic agar for the detection of Salmonella that can be used as part of the ISO 6579-1:2017 workflow. The first chromogen is a target for esterase activity present in all Salmonella species, and results in blue/green colonies. The second chromogen is a target for ß-glucosidase activity, present in non-target organisms that are able to grow on the agar and also possess esterase activity. Utilization of the second chromogen masks the presentation of the first, resulting in black colonies in non-Salmonella organisms.
